Chelsea blamed for Liverpool transfer collapse as Trey Nyoni continues to shine

Liverpool have an interesting week ahead with the summer transfer window due to close. They have left a lot on their plate to get wrapped up, or risk uncertainty spilling into the campaign.

Although Arne Slot answered a question about Joe Gomez saying he 'expects everyone to be here', there is a considerable group at the club who still face uncertain futures. Liverpool will have to allow permanent exits to come and explore the loan market for others

The latter even pertains to the possible first arrival of the Slot era, Giorgi Mamardashvili. The 23-year-old goalkeeper would secure a temporary switch for the time being until able to become the Reds' starting option at a later date.

With that said, the ECHO has put together a round-up of some of the latest Liverpool news to make headlines over the last 24 hours.

Chelsea dealt the blame over dashed Mamardashvili loan

According to Keith Wyness, Chelsea are to blame for Mamardashvili not being able to move to Bournemouth on loan were he to complete a transfer to Liverpool from Valencia.

If the Reds are able to wrap up a deal for the Georgia international, it was initially suggested Richard Hughes could incorporate his former team into the deal by using them as a holding loan club until Alisson Becker vacates the No.1 shirt at Anfield. More recently though that idea has fallen away in favour of a return to Valencia for the time being.

Claiming this is down to loan rules put in place to combat the Blues' early strategy under former owner Roman Abramovich, the former Everton chief told Football Insider: "This rule started because of Chelsea under Abramovich. They were hoarding players, keepers in particular, and loaning them out to other clubs.

"It wasn’t fair that a club having loan players in lots of sides were having such a big impact. The loan rules have been tightened up to stop an infiltration of too many players from one club across the league

That was put in place 10 or 15 years ago, and it’s been proven to be the right decision. It helps clubs become as singular and insular as possible to help academy talents come through. While the loan market is there for a reason, it’s best if it’s not too much between Premier League clubs. I think the balance is right at the moment."

Trey Nyoni scores as U21s provide transfer hints

Highly-rated midfielder Trey Nyoni found the net again for the Reds playing for the Under-21s side, but ultimately saw his side fall to a 2-1 home defeat to their Leicester City counterparts.

As well as the match's action, it was what transpires off the field in the aftermath that will produce much intrigue.
