Liverpool transfer news as deadline day arrives amid links to Alan Varela and claims of interesting movement from the private jet used to fly Federico Chiesa to Merseyside
Liverpool's transfer window has burst into life in the past week. But in the end, it was only outgoings that were confirmed on deadline day, with no more signings now possible until the new year.
Things ramped up at Anfield in the last week or so. The Reds completed a deal for 23-year-old goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili on Tuesday night, then followed that up by confirming the signing of Federico Chiesa on Thursday.
Teams had until 11pm on Friday (6pm EST) to register any new deals with the Premier League. Facing a race against time, Liverpool was linked with some late moves with midfield and defense still obvious priorities.
Porto star Alan Varela and Olympiacos ace Santiago Hezze were both linked as midfield options. In the case of Hezze, it was even claimed the same private jet that flew Chiesa to Anfield was en route to Athens.
That wasn't the case, though. Instead, there was a flurry of exits. Stefan Bajcetic has moved to Red Bull Salzburg and Ben Doak to Middlesbrough, with both of those switches looking ideal for the young players' development.
