Liverpool transfer news as Federico Chiesa price set and Joe Gomez front-runner emerges

Liverpool has been credited with surprise transfer interest in Federico Chiesa. A deal appears to be picking up some pace as the window nears its conclusion.

Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news, has since given an update that the move is "ON". Chiesa is keen on a move to Anfield, with contractual terms not expected to prove difficult to agree.

It would be the first summer arrival for Arne Slot, with the impending deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili set to be structured to delay the goalkeeper's arrival until 2025. And while a deal for Chiesa would come with plenty of question marks, it would appear to tick Richard Hughes' "opportunism" box, with Liverpool having now learned the asking price.

Meanwhile, outgoing business is expected in the remaining days of the window as well, with one option potentially crystallizing for Joe Gomez. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Federico Chiesa (Juventus to Liverpool)

Liverpool has been told it can secure Chiesa's signature for around $17m (£13m/€15m). That's per The Athletic.

Romano, who is taking something of a lead on this story, echoed the same figure. It's thought that Juventus wants Chiesa off the books, with the 26-year-old having been excluded from much of preseason, as well as the opening two Serie A fixtures.

The Athletic report indicated that Liverpool interest is at an exploratory stage, with similar inquiries having been made for several different players as transfer deadline day draws closer. But Romano seems to think a deal is somewhat closer at hand

Joe Gomez (Liverpool to Crystal Palace)

After being omitted from the opening Liverpool squad of the season, supposedly to explore his options, all has gone a little quiet on the Joe Gomez front. He was back on the bench at Anfield against Brentford, and Arne Slot even claimed that his initial omission had been to do with "load management".

However, as the transfer deadline nears, Crystal Palace has emerged as a legitimate suitor for Gomez. According to DaveOCKOP, "numerous clubs" are keen on the Liverpool defender, but the London side now leads the way.

Crystal Palace could be facing a situation where it loses both of its center-backs. Joachim Andersen has already left, and Marc Guehi is edging closer to a Newcastle move.
