Arne Slot rocked by huge Liverpool injury blow ahead of key run of fixtures

Arne Slot has confirmed the news ahead of Liverpool's visit of Bournemouth on Saturday.

Liverpool have a major injury concern going into the visit of Bournemouth on Saturday, manager Arne Slot confirms.

The Reds bounced back from a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest with an opening 3-1 Champions League win over AC Milan on Tuesday.

Their next challenge is Bournemouth at Anfield as they look to get back to winning ways in the league.

But it looks as though there will be a change in goal for the game, with Alisson Becker struggling with a muscle issue.

Slot revealed the blow in his press conference and fears this game may come too soon for the Brazilian.

“Alisson is still a doubt if he can train today, so let’s wait if he can train,” Slot told reporters.

Slot revealed the blow in his press conference and fears this game may come too soon for the Brazilian.

“Alisson is still a doubt if he can train today, so let’s wait if he can train,” Slot told reporters.

“If he can’t, he probably won’t play as well.

"He has a slight issue with one of his muscles, and we wonder if this game is coming too early or not.

“I think he didn’t take it from the Milan game, it happened a bit before, but after he felt more and more.

“Now we have to wait and see if he’s ready to be in goal tomorrow or we have to wait a few extra days.”

Alisson has played every minute so far this season but Republic of Ireland No.1 Caoimhin Kelleher will likely deputise and get his first competitive appearance under Slot.

Kelleher had his best season for Liverpool in terms of minutes last season, making 26 starts in all competitions.

Alisson was out of action for a large period due to a hamstring problem in Jurgen Klopp's final campaign but Kelleher proved to be a reliable deputy and kept a clean sheet in the Carabao Cup final.

Much to his frustration, the club moved to sign goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer from Valencia - where he will spend the current season on loan.

Speaking on his situation, Kelleher said: "I've made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a number one and play week in, week out.

"The club's made that decision to get another goalkeeper and from the outside looking in, it looks like they've made a decision to go in a different direction."
