Real Madrid’s Worst Players in Liverpool: Florentino Perez Decided to Kick Him Out of the Team

Real Madrid suffered another setback in the Champions League, with the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool marking a turning point in their journey in the competition.

Following this loss, the team finished the group stage in 24th place, the lowest position among the teams that qualified for the round of 32. This means that Real Madrid will have to play two legs, home and away, if they want to continue in the tournament.

According to information from the Spanish newspaper “Defensa Central”, Ferland Mendy was one of the most criticized players after the defeat at Anfield. The French defender’s performance was underwhelming, as he appeared weak defensively and failed to make a significant impact on the match. Despite his efforts, Mendy committed a glaring mistake by conceding a clear penalty for Mohamed Salah.

In the 72nd minute, Carlo Ancelotti decided to substitute Mendy, sending a clear message, especially after club president Florentino Perez made a decision regarding the player’s future at the club.

Perez believes that with the potential signing of Alphonso Davies, Mendy’s departure has become a real possibility. With other players, such as Fran Garcia, competing for the same position, it is no longer feasible to keep them all in the squad.

Although Mendy renewed his contract with Real Madrid a few months ago, extending it until 2027, while his previous deal was set to expire next year, the decision still seems surprising on paper. However, given the team’s evolving situation, it makes sense within the context of potential changes in the near future.
