That’s Why We Brought Him Here.
“Why did you bring him to Liverpool?”
They asked Klopp that in September 2020.
And his answer — now — sounds almost like a eulogy:
“Oh my god, plenty of reasons.”
Then he listed them.
Not just football traits, but fragments of a soul we’d grow to love:
Because he gave us options.
Because he could play anywhere.
Because he had speed, instinct, hunger.
Because he carried our game inside him — the desire, the greed, the direction.
Klopp wasn’t selling a signing.
He was describing a fire —
the kind that makes a team breathe deeper.
He wasn’t the finished article.
But he was willing to give everything to become one —
With us. For us.
He didn’t come here as a star.
He came because he wanted to be here.
And that, more than anything, is why:
He’ll never truly be gone.
