“Liverpool-Linked Striker Seals £22M Deadline Day Move as Club Confirms Deal”
Liverpool Miss Out on Highly Rated Striker as Brighton Secure £22M Deal
Liverpool have missed out on a potential transfer target who had been linked with a move to Anfield during the January window.
Last month, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that the Reds had initiated talks with Nurnberg over a possible deal for Stefanos Tzimas, who was on loan at the German club from PAOK Salonika. However, Nurnberg exercised their purchase option for the 19-year-old before he was swiftly snapped up by another Premier League club.
Brighton Seal Tzimas Signing
On Monday morning, Brighton officially confirmed the signing of the Greek striker on a five-and-a-half-year contract. He will, however, remain on loan at Nurnberg for the rest of the season.
Fabrizio Romano also reported the deal on X, calling the £22m move an ‘excellent signing’ for the Seagulls, who emerged as frontrunners for Tzimas in recent days.
Did Liverpool Let a Future Star Slip Away?
Despite Liverpool’s already well-stocked attacking options—evidenced by Jayden Danns’ expected loan to Sunderland—there may be a feeling among Anfield officials that Tzimas was a missed opportunity.
The young forward has impressed this season, scoring 10 goals in 17 league appearances for Nurnberg. Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler has described him as an “exceptional young talent” with a “natural ability to score goals.”
Even if Tzimas wasn’t ready to immediately compete for a spot in Arne Slot’s squad, Liverpool could have taken a similar approach to Brighton—signing him and loaning him out to gain more senior experience.
With the summer transfer window on the horizon, Liverpool may now have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements. The urgency of any moves will likely depend on potential departures—most notably Mohamed Salah, who is yet to commit to a new contract and could leave as a free agent in just five months.
